How to Get Married At The Hitching Post

We are so pleased that you would like to request information or make a reservation to start your life as husband and wife or renew your vows at the Hitching Post. Below is what you need to know about reserving your time for your wedding.
Hitching Post Wedding/Renewal of Vows Ceremony Reservations
1. Make an appointment/reservation with the Hitching Post Wedding Chapel
Online or call (208) 664-5510 and we’ll help you with the reservation.
*Please review our wedding policy before making a reservation.*
2. Purchase your Idaho marriage license- S.S. numbers, Photo ID, and $31 needed.
3. Come with your marriage license or drop it off early for your ceremony..
We will confirm your reservation by e-mail or phone call. We will then schedule you as close to that time as possible.
We do take Walk-ins, however we recommend making an appointment to ensure your day goes as smooth as possible.
All ceremonies are only performed by The Hitching Post ministers.

Marriage License Information
Before being married at The Hitching Post, both of you will need to go in person and apply for and purchase your Idaho marriage License. It can be from any county in the state. The Marriage license needs to be from the state where your ceremony is to be performed. Here in Coeur d’ Alene, you can obtain your Idaho marriage license at the Kootenai Co. Recorder’s office which is in the Administration building across the street from us or any Idaho County Recorders Office. You will need to know your social security number** and bring Photo ID.

Marriage licenses must be obtained by the last business day before 5 pm for Saturday -Sunday, Holiday Ceremonies.
**If you are from another Country, Canada, Mexico, etc. and you don’t have an U.S. Social Security number, you will need to go to any Social Security office to get form Number SLA 676 and take that to the marriage license office when you apply for the marriage license.

The Kootenai County Recorder’s office is CLOSED on Saturdays and all National Holidays.
Reservation/Cancellation Policy
Cancellations are subject to a $50.00 cancellation fee.
There is a $50 non-refundable deposit for Saturdays, Special Holidays, and other designated days.
Location, Off-Site Weddings
For location weddings outside of the Hitching Post at another facility, such as an outdoor venue or a family home, please see the following information to reserve your wedding date. (For outside the Coeur d' Alene area please call or e-mail for price quote 208 664-5510.)

We will confirm this day and time or confirm a time as close to that as possible by e-mail or phone call.
Cancellations are subject to a $50.00 cancellation fee.
**There is a $50 On Time fee for location weddings which is refunded if the ceremony starts within 15 minutes of the scheduled wedding time.
Marriage License Information
For weddings, at off-site locations, your marriage license needs to be in our office prior to the end of the last business day, before your wedding. (The Kootenai Courthouse Marriage License Office is CLOSED on Saturdays. Marriage Licenses must be obtained by the last business day before 5:00 pm)
Reservation/Cancellation Policy
A deposit of 50% needs to be paid within two weeks of scheduling a location wedding with the balance to be on or before the wedding date. Cancellation must be made at least 2 weeks prior to the wedding for a full refund otherwise it is forfeited.
Cancellations are subject to a $50.00 cancellation fee.
